The southbound lane of a portion of Palos Verdes Drive West will be shut down completely until late this month while Southern California Edison Crews complete underground work.

The complete closure began Tuesday after work on the street between Via Corta and Paseo del Mar kicked off Sept. 5. It is part of a monthlong project to improve the electrical grid in the area, according to Edison.

The northbound lane of the roughly milelong stretch of road will be closed on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., but will be open during the evening and early mornings.

Drivers headed south can detour along Via Corta to Paseo del Mar to reach Palos Verdes Drive West. Northbound travelers can take Via Montemar to Via del Monte and then to Via Corta to bypass the work area.

The work will include some scheduled power outages, including one Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents who will be affected by the outages will be notified at least 72 hours in advance, according to the utility company.

The entire project is scheduled to be complete in October.
