Educators of the Year, Rotary 2018

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club honored the following as 2018 Educators of the Year (front row, from left) Michelle Cohen (Point Vicente Elementary School), Janice DeMarti (Peninsula Heritage School), Allison Lehault (Palos Verdes Intermediate School), Vararat Chaiyont-Kan (Palos Verdes Peninsula High School), (second row, left to right) Carrie Ellis (Soleado Elementary School), Kimberly Tatman (Chadwick School), Dr. Larry Dunlop (Marymount California University), Jonathan D'Agostino (Rolling Hills Preparatory School), and Christopher Doughty (The Salvation Army College for Officer Training).

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club recently honored nine public and private school teachers at its 38th Annual Educator of the Year dinner at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.

"I am so proud that our community celebrates publicly the teaching profession," said event co-chair Dr. Jim Hartman. "Such appreciation and respect for teaching is a valued tradition on the Peninsula."

In addition to honoring teachers, co-chair Joan E. Behrens, thanked donors to the event who provide for annual Rotary college scholarships for deserving seniors throughout the peninsula and through the Boys and Girls Club of Los Angeles Harbor.

Each of the honorees shared what inspired them to pursue a career in education. In addition, Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School Distict Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss, Development Chair Harry Kitter and PVP Rotary Club President Marc Mazorow spoke to the 250 guests in attendance that included friends and colleagues of the Honorees, Rotarians and community leaders.

Among the awards received by each of the Educators of the Year were a Seiko carriage clock provided by Medawar Fine Jewelers, a gift certificate to The Spa at Terranea, and numerous commendations and certificates from local, county and state governmental entities.
