A Peninsula High alumna and medical student at Brown University was one of 15 people chosen for a two-week medical ethics program in Germany and Poland, according to a release from the program.
Hyunwoo June Choo earned the award from the Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics, which reflects on modern-day ethics using the actions of doctors in Nazi-occupied Europe.
Choo and the students will travel to various sites to study how doctors played a role in the Nazi state, according to the release.
The program examines how physicians’ ethics can be distorted and the impact that can have. The aim is to leave students better able to confront modern ethical issues, the release said.
