The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District was ranked first among districts in the Los Angeles metro area, according to Niche, a website that analyzes and ranks schools nationwide.

PVPUSD was named the fifth best in the state, among 455 districts, and 146th nationwide, out of more than 10,300 contenders.

The district’s high schools did similarly well. Peninsula High School was ranked as the second best high school in the Los Angeles metro area, and among the top 10 high schools in California.

The rankings, released this week, put Peninsula High as 54th nationwide and sixth in the state. Palos Verdes High School was ranked slightly behind, at 19th in the Los Angeles metro area, 53rd in the state and 404th in the nation.

The district and its schools make regular appearances in national education rankings, including those by Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report.
