Lou Sidella wants everyone to experience rowing as exercise. But he wants you to "row for a reason."
His fourth annual "Row for a Reason" at Body One Fitness seeks to raise $25,000 for Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach. For a $50 donation per half-hour time slot, you row at your own pace. Bring family and friends to row also, or invite them to donate and you do the heavy lifting.
Sidella, who lost his father to cancer several years ago, created the fundraiser to appeal to avid rowers and to introduce the exercise to beginners.
"I hold this event close to my heart with the loss of my father to cancer almost fourteen years ago,” said Sidella. “The funds raised from Row for a Reason provide free support groups and resources for those battling this dreaded disease and their families."
CSCRB Executive Director/CEO Paula Moore said she is grateful to Sidella and the community at Body One Fitness.
“Lou just keeps raising the bar with this event because he understands how vital our free programs of social and emotional support are to ensure that no one faces cancer alone.”
"Row for a Reason” is Friday, Sept. 7, from 4 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 8, from 7 a.m. to noon. The kick off on Friday includes food provided by Hermosa Fish Shop and Ashley’s Deli. BodySpec testing services will also be present from 1 to 7 p.m., and will donate 20 percent of all fat scans performed to the event.
Body One Fitness is located at 201 Herondo Street, Redondo Beach.
