The discovery of a young woman and man found dead at the bottom of a cliff near Point Fermin in San Pedro prompted an investigation into what led up to their deaths Monday, March 1.

A person called 911 to report what appeared to be two people lying along the shoreline near 500 West Paseo Del Mar, Los Angeles Police Officer Mike Lopez said.

Officers responded and summoned firefighters at about 5:19 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange said.

They determined that the two people were “beyond medical help,” when they arrived.

The identities of the man and woman, or information regarding how they wound up at the bottom of a cliff, was not immediately available.

Police were waiting for Los Angeles County Coroner’s officials to conduct an initial investigation before deciding whether detectives would become involved in the case, Lopez said.
