Police were searching Monday for a man and a woman in their 50s who allegedly approached two 11-year-old boys in a vehicle in Palos Verdes Estates and told them to "Get in the car!" police said.
The boys were playing after school about 2:15 p.m. in the neighborhood near Palos Verdes Drive North and Via Valmonte when they said an older silver, four-door sedan with black rims pulled up next to them and a man behind the wheel and a female passenger tried to get their attention, said Sgt. Steve Barber.
“They asked them to get in the car and when the two boys refused, the vehicle left the scene westbound on PV Drive North," Barber said.
The boys alerted a parent, who called 911, he said.
Officers checked the area and determined the vehicle had fled. They notified officials at the nearby Valmonte Early Learning Academy, which was not in session, Barber said.
Police were working to obtain security video from homes in the area, he said.
No weapons were seen during the encounter, Barber said. Because the suspects did not make threats against the boys or use physical force, he said, the incident is being investigated as a child annoyance and not an attempted kidnapping.
Anyone with information was urged to contact police at 310-378-4211.
