Residents in Rolling Hills Estates were without power and motorists went slowly along Palos Verdes Drive North for nearly an hour after a transformer blew, sending wires down to the street Thursday morning, Jan. 24, authorities said.

Deputies were dispatched to Palos Verdes Drive North and Ponderosa Lane for traffic control just before 9 a.m., Lt. Al Ortiz said. Both sides of the street were impacted while Southern California Edison began working on repairs.

The outage, affecting 233 customers, was caused by a tree that toppled over and took a wire down with it, said Sandy Jeun, a spokeswoman for Edison.

Repairs were expected to be completed Thursday evening, she said.
