The Palos Verdes boys basketball program went winless in the Bay League last season and the 2015-16 season. In between, was a 3-7 mark in 2016-17.
PV enters this week having already hit the three-win mark in the Bay League and is part of a logjam for first place, tied with Mira Costa, Peninsula and Redondo.
PV visits rival Peninsula in one of two big Bay League games – Redondo-Mira Costa is the other – on Tuesday night.
“It has been a vast improvement,” PV coach Brian Edelman said.
PV enters the week 18-2 overall and 3-1 in the Bay League.
“These guys all get along, they want to win,” Edelman said. “They were sick of losing last year and they came back as seniors and they’re not going to let it happen again.”
PV is the top-ranked team in this week’s CIF Southern Section Division 3A poll.
“This offseason we were practicing so hard,” senior forward Jack Engstrom said. “We were motivated. It is a real bad feeling to be 0-10 (last year’s league record).
“We learned a lot. We had some attitude issues, we had some work ethic issues. We were focused on fixing all of those problems and getting guys on the bench involved in the game, getting guys’ attitude straight, letting everyone know their role on the team and just going hard every game, no matter who we’re playing.”
